Plum - Opal

Very hardy Swedish variety, ideally suited to the British climate. Superb flavour, delicious eaten fresh off the tree, Opal also cooks well. Reliable and heavy-cropping, the branches may need extra support to avoid breaking under the weight of the fruit. Self-fertile.

Season: September

Rootstock: St. Julien A (semi-dwarf)

Planting Distance: 4m (13ft)

Approximate Height: 3m (10ft) after 10 years

Pollination: This plum is self-fertile, but may be planted with any other of our plum varieties to ensure best pollination.

Instances of poor pollination are nearly always caused by bad weather at blossom time, limiting the activity of insects.

This plum tree is growing on a semi-dwarf rootstock, ideal for the average garden.

Plums need a sunny site and a neutral soil to crop well, a pH of 6.0 - 7.5 is ideal.
