Plum - Edwards

Reliable and prolific Californian variety, a chance seedling found in Oakland in 1930. The large blue-purple fruit is ideal for cooking or can be eaten straight from the tree when fully ripe. The branches may need support to avoid breaking under the weight of fruit.

Season: September

Planting Distance: 5m (16ft)

Approximate Height: 4m (13ft) after 10 years

Instances of poor pollination are nearly always caused by bad weather at blossom time, limiting the activity of insects.

This plum tree is growing on a semi-dwarf rootstock, ideal for the average garden.

Plums need a sunny site and a neutral soil to crop well, a pH of 6.0 - 7.5 is ideal.
