Pear - Williams' Bon Chrétien

A famous pear of exquisite flavour, sweet and full of juice. A magnificent cropper, ripening early so can be eaten fresh from the tree. Particularly good for bottling - it is known as the Bartlett pear when used for canning. Will succeed in heavy clay soils.

Season: August - September

Rootstock: Quince A (semi-dwarf)

Planting Distance: 4m (13ft)

Approximate Height: 3m (10ft) after 10 years

Instances of poor pollination are nearly always caused by bad weather at blossom time, limiting the activity of insects.

This pear tree is growing on a semi-dwarf rootstock, ideal for the average garden.

Pears need a sunny site and a neutral soil to crop well, a pH of 6.5 - 7.5 is ideal.
