Damson - Shropshire Prune

Traditional British damson, a reliable cropper producing masses of small fruit, sweet and juicy, unsurpassed for flavour. Delicious with yogurt or ice cream or in pies, jams and liqueurs. Eat straight from the tree when fully ripe. Self-fertile.

Season: September

Planting Distance: 5m (16ft)

Approximate Height: 4m (13ft) after 10 years

Instances of poor pollination are nearly always caused by bad weather at blossom time, limiting the activity of insects.

This damson tree is growing on a semi-dwarf rootstock, ideal for the average garden.

Damsons need a sunny site and a neutral soil to crop well, a pH of 6.0 - 7.5 is ideal.
