Damson - Merryweather

Large blue-black fruit with yellow flesh, wonderful rich tangy flavour. Delicious with yogurt or ice cream or in pies, jams and liqueurs. Eat straight from the tree when fully ripe. Self-fertile.

Season: Late September

Planting Distance: 5m (16ft)

Approximate Height: 4m (13ft) after 10 years

Instances of poor pollination are nearly always caused by bad weather at blossom time, limiting the activity of insects.

This damson tree is growing on a semi-dwarf rootstock, ideal for the average garden.

Damsons need a sunny site and a neutral soil to crop well, a pH of 6.0 - 7.5 is ideal.
