Red Filbert / Rote Zellernuss

This larger leaved relative of our native hazel produces much bigger nuts, delicious either fresh or roasted. Striking red-tinged growing tips in spring and summer, forms a small multi-stemmed tree draped with colourful catkins in late winter. Originally from southern Europe filberts have been grown in Britain for thousands of years.

Season: September - October
Harvest when the husks begin to yellow in autumn. Once dried the nuts will keep for months.
