Blackberry - Reuben

The first blackberry to crop in the autumn on the new cane, as well as on the old in early summer. Older plants are virtually thornless. Heavy cropping, very large sweet-tasting berries, full of juice. Makes marvellous bramble jelly, delicious in pies when mixed with other fruit such as apples. Freezes well.

Season: Late July - September

Planting Distance: 4m (13ft)

Approximate Height: 2m (6ft) after 5 years

Blackberries need a fertile neutral soil to crop well (a pH of 6.0-7.5 is ideal) with good drainage in full sun.

Two pairs of horizontal wires, 60cm (2ft) and 1.2m (4ft) above ground, will be required to support the fruit-bearing canes in future years.
